lowering blocks for rear ?'s

well I want to lower my 69 and want to put some blocks under the axle in the back so anyone have soe sizes or ideas how to build the blocks for the back? I want to go 3 front and 4 in the rear so how tall of a block do I ahve to use for the back to get it 4 inches lower and also what else should I do in the back to get it this low or is blocks good enough. For the front I;m just going to cut the coils till I can get some dropspindles.

for the front, you can just cut the coils. 1 1/2 rounds off should give you a 3" drop, don't go any more than this without drop spindals. For the back use some solid pieces of metal for lowering blocks, your prolly gonna have to weld a few pieces together for the lowering blocks. I would NOT go more than 2" on the lowering blocks. To get 4" total, your gonna need to get springs. What i did is used car springs out of a late 70's/early 80's monte carlo, chevelle, ect... they fit without any modifications and give you a 4" in. drop wihtout lowering blocks. good luck!

I made mine out of 3 inch aluminum blocks, steel will work just as well. You will also have to have longer U-bolts made or you will have to buy some. I agree, I wouldnt go with 4 inch blocks. To get more I would go with springs also.

yup, it lowers it about 4" with just the springs. The spring retainer cups from our trucks work perfect on these springs, no modifications are needed. The springs are a lot softer than the regular truck springs, because they are car springs of course. If you are going to be hauling anything , i would recommend you get regular truck lowering springs.don't remeber exactly what car they were out of, but i'm sure someone else here knows who has done it before. I like them for racing at the track, because they have a lot of give and provide for good weight transfer.

With the A/G body rear springs, how is the ride? How does it corner?

How your truck handles while cornering all depends on how good your shocks are.

I've got chevelle springs new in box if you need some. I used 4" lowered truck springs and 2" X2" STEEL STOCK AND DRILLED THEM FOR A 6" DROP.

Sorry for the lighting, but its 12 degrees outside and about 8 in my shed. I've got 3 inch drop springs and 3 inch drop blocks with longer u-bolts. Truck (when was possible) rode on toxic drop shocks and it was a great ride, hooked like a mofo as well.

These would be the rear springs, or the front?

That's for the back...lowering blocks wouldn't work well in the front.

Ahhh, I see Jason.
It would have to be the rear springs off the G/A body, they are pigtailed liek ours are, the front springs would probably swap right in up front too, but that is just speculation on my behalf.
A/G body cars would include Malibu, cutlass, Grand Prix, El Camino... I think there is another one, but I can not recall it at the moment.

Regal and Monte Carl, there. I think that's all the A/G cars.

I lowered my back end using a kit from Godfather's Customs that cost (at the time, not sure now) $19.95. It came with the longer U-bolts, and a set of steel blocks (4 per side -3/4" each block-in the set, but you could use however many suited your taste). I couldn't find longer U-bolts for less than what the kit cost me. Most of the aftermarket catalogs have these kits at a reasonable cost, makes for a nice and easy way of lowering, and everything fits. A friend of mine decided he could make his own cheaper, but learned the hard way it wasn't so cheap, and then struggled with the U-bolts fitting through the blocks he fabbed. I had the kit installed in a little over an hour, and I wasn't hurrying.

I'm wanting to do a small lowering on my truck but so far everything I've found is $300+ a URL would be much appreciated

Thanks!
