Help: speedo cable/dash light mod
My speedo makes a whirring sound, which differs depending on the speed.
Since I am going to try the "Bright Dash Light" mod and have most everything apart, can I lubricate the speedo cable or what?

Easily Just grab the end with some needle nose pliers and give it a good lubing with some white lithium greace, did the trick for me To reinstall it, just push it back in

Like Russell said, the speedo cable is a sinch. You'll notice the end of the cable is pressed into a square shape, so when you reinstall it, you may need to wiggle it a little so it slides properly into the square end at the tranny (or cruise control module if you have that). Either way, it's simple - - you'll know when you've got it.
Oh BTW, I used a black lube called "cable eaze" or something like that to do mine. I believe it has graphite in it and is specially made (so they say) for cable lubrication. Good luck with the dash lights and get your shades ready... j/k. Let us know how it turns out. |

Are you saying that you pull the whole cable out of its sheath and lube the entire length of it (there's a joke in here somewhere) or just lube it near the gauge?

I do have cruise control (although it doesn't work).
Thanks for the help (and the discretion).

Your Welcome Besides, what is it they say.... "discretion is the better part of valour".
As for the cable, you'll find it's a very easy thing to do and it should quite it completey. While you're at it, you may want to get under the hood (or under the truck if it's easier) and lube the other sections of the cable as well. Mine has a short cable from the speedo to a cruise control module (on the driver's side fender) and then a two piece cable from there to the tranny. Have fun - - and enjoy the brighter lights. |

I actually replaced my cable but that will work as long as its not frayed anywhere. s far as the dash lites, i did the mod and it is brighter, but i am going to try one step more and try the blue 168 bulbs. the 168 are the brightest (3 candle watt) so with the background painted with CHROME paint, it ought to look good. I had the blue bulbs before and liked them but they were just not bright enough.
