i hurt my cairrier bearing yesterday

well guys the only damage done yesterday when i hauled my 67 home w/ the 68 was the cairrier went out finally. how in the world do you repalce them?? thanks, sswj

well you gotta undo the 4 bolts that hold the driveshaft to the rear axle, and then undo the 2 bolts on top of the carrier bearing bracket itself. It will then slide out. You'll have to take the middle ujoint apart to seperate the driveshaft then knock off the carrier bearing as its pressed on there. Remember what position the carrier bearing was on the driveshaft as I've heard people say if you mess that up putting the new one back on you'll get driveline vibration. I had a heck of a time getting that middle ujoint out the first time I replaced a carrier bearing so this last time when i broke my rear ujoint doing some it busted my carrier bearing as well. That time i said the heck with it and took it in and had somebody else do it as I was working 16 hr days and didn't have time to fiddle with it.
