Oil Leak
I thought I stopped the oil leak, but I did not. I have a 350 crate engine. I think that it is coming from the passenger side. Could it be that I did not plug the dipstick hole on that side? It is leaking on the oil pan, tranny cover, starter. How do I plug this with the engine in?
Thanks for the help. Luke 1973 C20 |

I don't have one, but I was told that the crate engine comeswith a plug when you buy it. You have to put the lug in the dipstick hole on the side you don't use. Did you do that?
Did you, or a previous owner, replace the oil pan gasket? I found out the hard way on my oil pan (engine is a replacement engine, block has provision for left or right dipstick, but is only drilled on the right side) that they have a spot on the pan for a left or right dipstick. If you don't get the pan gasket with a hole on both sides for a dipstick, the side without it leaks like crazy. Mine lost about a quart every 40 or 50 miles. If your oil pan gasket has been replaced, and this does not make sense, let me know. I can hunt down some pics to explain it. Slonaker Last edited by Slonaker; 02-27-2004 at 12:45 PM. |

My engine did not come with the plug for the passenger side dipstick. I know that we did not put one in either. I am hoping that this is all that it is. I will check this on Saturday.
Thanks, Luke |
