progress on 71 K20
Took the front bumper and grill off. Core support has surface rust but is solid, going to use it. The cab I'm getting has the fenders and inner fenders but they are for a chevy. The home made body lift is going also, going to install a 4" lift.

Flat bed removed.
Used my 70 to pull the flat bed off after removing the two pins the bed tilted on. I estimate the flat bed weighed over 1000 lbs. Also have to remove all the angle iron and wood. Will also have to cut the rear bumper off as it is welded to the frame.
One question as you can see the little brackets the stepside bed is suppose to sit on were cut off. How hard are they to replace? I believe there should be 8 of them. When i got the bed I did not know I'd need them. I believe I have a source worked out already.

It actually took longer to drive the piviot pins out. I pulled it off until it was leaning then used a come-along to lift it off the 71 and moved it forward then set it on the ground. Have a guy coming to get it.

I was wondering how you lifted that bed off. I figured it was one heavy dude. Are these brackets you are talking about on the frame or on the bed? I've never had a stepside bed.
Looking good by the way! That truck has been sitting along time waiting for some attention. |

Dean, They are the little brackets that are welded to the frame, I believe all trucks w/ beds fleet or step have them. It's what the bed bolts are actually bolted to.

Yep. The piece of board runs along the top of the frame. I'm not sure what the wood was for as it rattles around. The angle iron actually supported the flat bed.

I also cut the exhaust off at the cab. Tomorrows agenda:
Remove front fenders, disconnect clutch linkage, oil pressure gage, e-brake, speedo, and front wiring. Hope to have the cab off by Friday with new one on Saturday!

I'm sure they love it Dean. I'm right on the corner and have the truck sitting on the corner. Everybody that drives into the neighborhood sees the truck. It won't be like that for long. If all goes according to plan. The bed and scrap is spoken for, and should be gone this weekend.
