Who make a good DIY bed liner? Is herculiner any good?

honestly, there isnt such a thing as a good do it yourself bedliner. i used herculiner on my truck a year ago. it was more work putting it in that it was worth. pay more and get it sprayed in! i am getting it redone next week the correct way. its already "gray" and chipping away

Be careful of what is underneath it. I did a "Professional" DIY bedliner kit, made by Marhyde. The acetone in it reacted with the paint underneath, and it lifted within an hour. After wasting a morning doing that, I ended up paying to have it sprayed in. Just my experience, but I would suggest having it done. I paid $300 for mine. By the time you figure $50-100 for the liner, a roller kit ($10) and the labor of doing it (priceless?) you are actually money ahead having it done. Usually the Rhino, Line-X, etc have a lifetime warranty, too.

I'm getting ready to "Spray" hurculiner. I bought a under coating gun to do the job.

Truck beds are cheap but to get a K5 done your talking $500. My k5 runs top-less most of the year so my big goal is to keep it from rusting. THe second goal is to give it some sound insulation.

Thinking about doin my Burb mostly for the sound insulation.

From someone who has done one, pay the money and get it done right. The do it yourself kits are not very good and cost 25%+ of a good one.
The DIY ones look ok, but are not anywhere as close as strong.
I have a DIY one and I am going to get it done right one day.
I did the DIY one because I had a plastic bed liner that wasnt in the best of shape. I had enough for he DIY so I did it. It came out ok, but gets scratched easily.

i did my own, it looks great, but it was a bear to do and it isn't very durable i think that Rustolium was the manufacturer (under a different name which i forget) but if looks and rust prevention are what you are looking for, (that would be me) then i would say to go for it, but if you need it to be chip and scratch resistant then DIY is not the best way to go.

Hey 84Stepside, couldn't help but notice that you have Forsyth county tags. Good to see another GA guy on here. I got a house up off 53 on Lake Lanier right on the Forsyth/Hall county line.

This is exactly how I want to do my bed.

Couple of questions. Did you do the bedliner before you put the wood bed in, or did you just mask the wood and have them spray the bedliner?

I have a wood longbed fleetside that I'll be replacing the wood in this summer and want to do like yours.

As to Ripleys and Dans questions, the Rhino Dealer took care of masking off the wood, am in the process of refinishing it. I painted the metal bed strips. And he also tinted the windows, all in all $250. Both came with a lifetime guarantee. I am very satisfied, how often can we say that?

I did Herculiner on the lower panels of my 4x4 and after a rear have rust coming through it, at the same time my buddy did a tool box he had cut down 10 inches to take it from a fullsize to fit in the back of his k5, 2 night later it was still sitting out and it rained. Shortly after everwhere he had welded or had bear metal, the new surface rust can through.

Whoever owned my 85 previously sprayed in some sort of do it yourself liner. One word "terrible". May have just been his application but it looks awful, it ran and the drain holes in the box had gotten plugged so I had to scrap away that area. All along the bottom of the bed it peeled off. So in my opinion, don't do it yourself.

the thing i find with all the DIY bedliners is that no matter what goes wrong with the thing its always blamed on the installation process. One of the other members got some stuff from ebay and when he sprayed it ( according to the directions) and then parked the car outside ( after the recommended curing time etc) he got rust specks through the liner. He called them and was told that it was his prep work. I think that these newfangles bed liners are pretty much all crap and ill stick witht he plastic ones. they also protect against dents when ya drop stuff in the bed.
By the way ive heard horror stories about all the brands of bedliner that spray in. Still aint heard enough good to get one tho
