How many keep their receipts ???
Since I'm going to get rid of the truck, I pulled out my receipt box..
I started keeping receipts on it in 92,( I got the truck in I think 1988 ) And I have only put a little over 10,000 miles on it since 92.....It really makes you realize just how much money you really have spent on these things.. The wife told me a few months back when I was looking at a new Lightning, That if I didn't have the 70, I could afford one.. Glad she hasn't seen this box of receipts... Where has it really all gone????!!! Ron |

I run a ruff tally in my head usually. I don't think I could handle to know every dime I put in any or the rods...
Anything that is major or that has a warrenty obviously I keep those though!

I kept the receipts when I started working on a Chevelle I had. When I sold the car I pulled them out. I realized I sold the car for a 3rd of what I had in it. After thet I decided I wouldn't keep them on the truck project...

Funny, I have a receipt for a case of oil c. 1974 (Valvoline. 24 1 Qt cans = $7.98) and a 1978 townsend racing works invoice for 4Bbl Holley, $82.07; Clifford headers $93.50; Offy intake $65.26, -- But don't you know it when I needed my engine build-up statement from my machinist, to see why the flywheel doesn't fit the original crank anymore... The sucker's gone missing. It'll turn up in another tune-up book in another 15 years when it thinks it's safe.

I throw them all out. I don't want to know how much I've spent, it would just depress me.

I am doing a spreadsheet too, I record everything, including what I paid for the truck, all the parts, I buy and sell from it, even recorded the $1.35 in change that I found in the seats :p
It makes me realize that I am spending all this money on building a truck I will keep because there is no way I can get all of my money back if I sell it when it is done. |

Like FirstGen, I keep receipts for major (& some minor) and warranty items, and I have a notebook with service history etc. But I've owned the truck for 27 years, and if I kept everything it would fill a very large box!

I've got some reciepts, like those for the engine and tranny rebuilds, but the rest have dissappeared. I don't think i would want to see them, would be rather depressing to see how much total money i have in my truck, lol

Yeah. I keep all mine and have a database I keep track of everything I buy or do to the 70 and now the 82. Guess it comes from doing Project Management stuff and being married to an accountant.

I keep the important receipts, generally loose the not so important ones. Also I try to keep everything on a spreadsheet. I have a freind who owns a speedshop so receipts are not to big of a deal esecially for warentee if I had purchased the items from him. One way I try to look at my vehicles I build is to compare them to new vehicles of what they cost and how much my payments would have been over the time of having the truck except interest free. So if I buy a new truck for 35K over a 6 year period I could put 6K in a year to justify it. This way I don't scare myself. Plus my 67 will go up in value versus the new which will go way down before it comes backup..

I kept them on the first truck I built, on down to the gear oil and realized I had over $16,000 grand in it. Now I can even sell it for $5500. So on the second, I am throwing them all away.

I've kept all my reciepts for my truck since day one, except the gas station reciepts. Last year when I sw how much so far I have put into the truck, I decided to just throw them intot he folder, and never look in it again.

Receipts are a god send if anything ever happens and the insurance company is trying to play hard ball with ya. Documentation is a GOOOD thing.

Yeh...I keep my reciepts...hidden from the wife...HeHeHe...Not really. I keep records so I can remember what I've done (I have a lot of pre-mature senior moments) and it also lets me keep a record of suppliers for the misc. parts. Also at this pont my investment is still less than a new 2004 truck...at least for now!!

I keep all my reciepts until the part is on, tested, and proven to be not defective. Then it's in the garbage. I usually don't get reciepts though because my dad owns the local auto parts store and he just either gives it to me (if it's cheap) or sells it to me (like a battery or something) but doesn't give me the reciept.
