700r4 not kicking down

I have a problem with my 700r4 and have had the problem since I bought it about 7 months ago. First, I've noticed that it never kicks down gears when I floor it on the freeway. Also, If I do floor it I have to reset my TV cable because it will then shift too early or late. WEIRD!

1. Does anybody have a clue what could be causing this weirdness? (The cable is fairly new and is from O'Reilly)

2. Does the TV cable actually actuate the kicking down of gears?

3. I have a new GM TV cable that I bought awhile back. Do you think that may fix my problems?

Thanks guys!

The problem may be the after market TV cable.

Yes-- the TV cable actually actuates a spool in a sleeve and that diverts fluid pressure to down shift the trany.

Yes-- the new GM TV cable may fix the problem but you will have to drop the trany oil pan in order to change it.

If it dosent fix the problem then the trany may have been damage due to the TV cable not being adjusted properly.

Do have the factory carb and intake? If so the GM TV cable will work. The cable you are using may be slipping at the tab connection. Fix this problem quickly. A tranny with the TV cable not properly adjusted will not live long.

FYI Scott, you don't have to drop the pan to change out the TV cable. I'd say the non-GM cable is the root of your problems.

Thanks guys. First thing I'll do is change the cable. The cable that is on there I put on when I bought the truck and it hasn't ever worked correctly.

Ryan, you're definitely right about not having to remove the pan. I didn't have to do that last time I changed it out.

I wonder if my throttle cable might also be bad. If it's not right and doesn't get full throw, then I can see that it may not allow the TV cable to operate correctly.
