Follow the bouncing gauges

Hi, So here's the deal...... I have 78 Chev Stepside. I love "Elvis'.. But there is a problem that one of you knowledgable people could help me with. The needle on my gas gauge bounces back and fourth when I'm driving down the road. Not a major deal I guess, it still tells me how much gas is in the tank. (single gas tank).... Whats the fix.???
Next bouncing gauge. The speedometer. When I get up around 75 or 80, the needle bounces around a lot. Any simple fix for this one??

Your speedometer cable needs to be lubed up, white lithium would work just fine for that As far as the swaying gas tank needle, I think all our trucks do that When I accelerate, decelerate or turn etc, my gas guage sways around too

the gas gauge is just like that... its part of owning a 73-87... as far as the speedo, check the connections both at the speedo and at the trans.. you might disconnect the whole cable and check for any kinks and frays and such.

Best fix to that swaying gas needle is to keep the tank close to full.
Like Russel said, white lithium on the speedo cable should smooth it out.

That gas gauge will stop bouncing soon, & will read way past full all the time. Well, most of the time. It also will still read somewhere in the "you've got plenty" range when it runs out of gas. At least mine did before it went to permanent 3:00. I learned to fill up every 200 miles, since it will go 300 on a tankful.

Gas gauge almost sounds like a ground problem...
