new to the boards

i did some searching around and found this excellent forum with all kinds of enthusiasts like myself. Just figured i would say hi and give some info; I am in Northwest Florida, have a 76 GMC 2WD longbox with a tired 350 but after a few bills are paid i have some engine and other maintenance work planned for it. I do have some question which i will post in the appropriate areas when needed.

my beast:

In the past 30 years about 90% of Fords are still on the road, the other 10% made it home.

BTW- Who cares where the mirrors came from. They are on a Chevy now, so thats what counts....:p

i am pretty sure that they are aftermarket due to the surface rust on them, the mount holes all line up and no extra holes in it, F*&D mirrors have a different mount pattern from what i've seen... i am in the process of looking around for some clean non-rusty original 76 mirror, not these crappy aftermarket ones.

N2TRUX, shhhh it is a GMC, not a chevy lol

and thanks for the welcomes

edit: i was bored so i thought i would add some info about my truck although i am not a mechanic so some of the things i ask/talk about my be wrong or need to learn how to do. In my picture post i said it was 100% original but it is closer to 98% original after thinking about it, the driver side fender was replaced sometime many years ago by the previous ower (the Royal Sierra emblem gives that away, ummm single emblem for sale?? lol), the truck was originally red and the rims are chrome plated steel. The emblem on the dash inside is Sierra Grande, the truck as a whole needs some work but does very well for its age and originality. From a slight distance like my picture it looks real good but up close it does need work like dime size and smaller surface rust areas only along the very bottom of both doors, the passenger fender very front has a small crinkle which will be fun to pull and the truck as a whole needs a paint job which i will paint same color. It has a fitted truck bed liner but underneat theres no rust which is nice. Also on the outside of the bed it has tiedowns (seen on the picture) which has helped tremendously when i moved a few couches, our new kitchen table, our new 27" tv, plywood for our new house plus all kinds of other fun stuff.
It has the original (and tired) 350 with i think its the rochester 2bbl carb, factory AC and the rest is basic original.

Things that needs fixed:
--Something (maybe the switch panel) isnt working so i have no vent/AC/heater, i already replaced the fan so its either the switch or somethign under the hood or the cable itself, i havent had a chance to get under there to sheck the cable yet.
--needs a paint job as it is oxidized plus some scratches and rock dings showing some of the original red underneath.
--has single exhaust pipe going back with 2" chrome tip straight out back under the bumper, i would like to get dual exhaust with glass packs and 3" chrome tips straight out the back.
-would liek to get a second gas tank as the current 20 gal doesnt seem to last as long as i would like.
--replace the aftermarket mirrors
--find a bed/cab light since mine is missing
--eventually i will rebuid this 350 since it is tired, looking probably to get it bored 60 over, get a 400 cam, headers but try to leave as much as possible stock on everything else if possible (with this truck), i have plans for another truck to go street stock or drag package but thats years down the line. This engine does spit a little white smoke on startup and when i floor it but just enough to smoke a tailgater. :p

I liek the rims and tires (Michelin 31x10.50 XCX/APT) and seems everthing on the underside is working well, even with these excellent heavier traction tires it is still pretty easy to spin them from a flat stop.
I had the chance to street race against a 99 F*&d Power Stroke that was setup with at least $20-30K worth of customizations and sounded mean...
and I smoked him, at just over 1/4 mile i was at 85-88mph and 2 full truck lengths ahead of him (not bragging, just laughing that my tired 350 was spitting smoke behind me liek i said it did when i floored it yet i can still beat a new Powerless Stroker).
Of course no more racing until i get the engine rebuilt, i burned about 1/2 a quart on that little stunt (but DAMN IT WAS FUN!!!)
