How do I get the ignition out of the dash

On the 72 I just aquired, the P/O broke a piece of key off inside the ignition. Is there a trick to getting these ignitions out? I have a new one that I want to install. I don't want to wreck the dash trying to remove it.

You need the key in the ignition then you incert a pin in the little hole and that pin pushes a button. If I remember right the key and the lock come out. It's been a while. Someone might be able to describe it a bit better.

The big chromed ring,that shows on the dash face unscrews from the ignition switch on the rear of the dash.

With the key broken inside, this may be a PITA, but you might be able to use a screwdriver though.
Insert key and turn to ACC position (counter clockwise)
Insert paper clip into little hole on ignition face plate.
depress the spring loaded thin inside with the paperclip while you try to turn further counterclockwise. Some gigling and cursing may be needed, along with some lube sometimes.
It should pop out into your hand, and the new switch can be installed now.
