Four Wheeler Mag.

Anybody see the May issue? Had an article on rebuilding the NP205(project super burb) and an article on Chevy/GMC weaknesses.
Any comments?

Sorry, I get 4-Wheel and Off-Road. they list chevy weaknesses 73-87 as the 305 V8, the frame around the steering box and the early years of the 700r4

leave it to Off Road to go for the obvious. Sport Truck has better 4x4 coverage than Off Road does IMO.

i bought that mag on the run... usually i sit and check out what articles are in it. i was psyched to see the chevy weakness headline on the front cover so i bought it. i was WAY more psyched to see that the 67-72 chevy trucks were THE EXCEPTION to everything they listed! CHOICE! our trucks rok!

i have subscribed to 4 wheel & off road for over 5 years, and that magazine is starting to make me mad. when i first got it, it was very interesting and helpful, had many articles on upgrades for various types of 4x4s.

Today, it seems the magazine has changed alot...they should call it "4 wheel & rock crawl" as that seems to be all they cover. they rarely go mudding or snow running. their two last 4 wheeler of the year awards have been given to the Lexus GX 470 (i think that is its name) and the VW Touareg. that is a bunch of

sorry, I will get off my soap box now...I'm glad there is at least a different mag out there printing stuff about trucks and not Jeeps for once.

Adam, 4 wheel does do some mudding coverage but theres not much technology there... bit tires, big lift, hard right foot. as far as their 4 wheel of the year award. they only test the ones that are new and get sent to them. What do you think should be the 4 wheel of the year? so VW and Lexus actually made a good 4x4, that performed well ALL around. do you want them to be biased towards American 4x4s? also, if you havent noticed, Four Wheeler and 4 Wheel and Off road are owned by the same people... Primedia i believe . i still prefer 4wheel and off road.

rockcrawling is basically a more expensive form of mudding. both follow the same basic rule of "wheel the piss out of this until something breaks, then replace it with a bigger one."
Hailing from Ohio, the land of no rocks, I am naturally disappointed in the fact that rockcrawling is taking over 4WOR. i still think it is neat, but i have no use for it. i also do realize that 4WOR is based in LA, but what about everyone subscribing east of the mississippi? we all have the same dilemma.

and about the 4x4 of the year...i know that the competition is only based on what the manufacturers will give the staff, but still...iirc, the Wrangler Rubicon got edged out by the Lexus because the wrangler had a harsh ride. all the babies that write for the magazine actually made it seem like a big deal. since we are already assuming the hypothetical situation of someone actually taking a brand new $30-40,000 vehicle and wheeling it, then we can assume that the testers would actually test for off road prowess, and not whine about how the vehicle rides on the road. i think the whole competition is bs anyway...domestic or import...almost no one is going to buy a new 4x4 and wheel it...it will end up as a pavement pounder.
