A few questions

Does anyone have a diagram to which each spark plug wire goes to what cylinder from the distributor. Its a 69 396.

I've got an HEI kit installed on my truck. I've been told a bunch of different ways to hook it back up. There are 3 wires red, yellow, and black. Black goes from the distributor to the neg on the coil. Yellow goes from distributor to the pos side ignition box and red goes from the distributor to the pos side of the coil. Am I right?

Thanks for the help.

I dont specifically know about those three wires, but I do know this: You need a full 12 volts to the HEI, which can only be had by running a whole new wire from the fuse panel, to the HEI. The old wire is only 6 volts, its a resistance wire. Get two female spade connectors on each end of the wire, connect the HEI side to the + terminal(not the tach terminal), then run the wire through the firewall to the fuse panel, and connect that end to an empty spade terminal on the bottom of the panel marked ign. You double check that you have the right terminal with a test light, power on with key on. After that wire is hooked up, and your plug wires are all connected as per firing order, with any luck it should fire right up. Oh yes, you should be able to just tape up the ends of the old wires, and leave them there, in case for some reason you ever want to go back to the old distributor.
You mentioned an ignition box, if you mean an aftermarket unit like the MSD 6, then disregard everything I just said, and you'll have to follow MSD's instructions, or instructions from the manufacturer of the box.

Do you have a normal HAI out of a 75 & up GM aplication? (you said HEI kit which I have never heard of)
If you do have a normal HEI, then those wores are supposed to have a plug on them and plug into int's self up in the cap. The coil is inside the cap.
