I have my carb all apart to try a first rebuild!
Went to buy some rebuild cleaner and they wanted $70.00
What I says!

Will paint thinners and gasoline work?

What else is there?

That's insane! Carb cleaner is about $3 a can around here the last time I bought some.

I think he is talking about like a 5 gallon bucket of the cleaner or maybe more not a spray can.

Buy a 1 gallon can of Berryman's carb dip at the parts store. It will come in a metal 1 gallon can like a paint can. It will also have a wire dip basket inside the can to put the parts in while they soak in the can.

Usually about 18-22 dollars for the gallon, which will last a long time (plenty of carb overhauls) if you don't trash it out with heavy grease.

we use paint thinner (turpentine) on all our carb rebuilds for the soak. Let that sucker sit overnight in the bath, pull it out, wash it out with water, then take pressurized air and blow it dry, making sure to get every passage.

For restoration projects, we shoot the main body with clear coat, but just on the outside and we mask all the gasket surfaces and such. Makes it look brand new.

Dude's in Canada. Factor in exchange rate, GST, PST, and other taxes and it's about $70 CAD

Go to Advance auto or Autozone. They sell a 1 gallon metal can of carb solvent that even has a metal parts strainer in it for about $10. I think it's Gunk brand. I've been using this brand with good results. When the solvent gets dirty, just buy another can. I have 2 now and the old can I use to clean greasy parts in so I'm still getting my moneys worth out of the old one!

Spray can carb cleaner is .88 cents at Walmart! I use that stuff on everything for that price.

If the real stuff is to pricey, I use (Laquer thinner)and a spray can of carb cleaner to to get in the tight spots and pin holes, works great but is a little rough on the hands, avoid putting rubber parts that you plan on reusing in the bucket.
