Couple more joint questions.

Are all carrier bearing mount's bent in the middle like the one pictured below? I do have another one I can mount in there if I grind off the rivit's. The top carrier bearing mount should have the fat lipped side facing the rear of the truck correct? Any help would be great ..

Should be flat--my 68 gmc has a bracket on the diff side of the cross member that bolts on the top side, then the carrier bearing hangs from it.
