how long to prime

how long should it take to prime a 350 oil pump? I see oil coming through the distributor shaft but not going to the rockers also the oil pump shaft is wobbly. Thanks

The lifters feed the rocker arms. I am sure you got it by now though. The shaft will be wobbly since the distributor actually locates it. I typically put a gauge on the oil port next to the distributor hole and verify oil is getting there.

If you are using a priming tool which does not plug the oil galley where the dizzy is inserted you will not be able to get oil up to the rockers. What kind of tool are you using?

I've used my priming tool many times and haven't had a problem with the oil getting to the rockers...

If the priming tool does not have a housing around it, the engine is not getting completely primed. Look at a distributor and notice there is an oil passage cast into the body. It's that groove about half way down the length of the body. That passage carries oil to the other side of the engine's top end. If that passage isn't in place, the oil that is meant for the other side of the engine will simply spill out and run back to the pan.

Those places need to quit selling the simple shaft type of tool. They may be cheap, but they aren't doing the whole job.
