Repro bumper quality...

Hi. What do you guys think of the quality of repro bumpers? I am wanting chrome ones for my GMC but finding good ones close to me is proving difficult. Are the repros worth buying? Or should I keep looking for GM ones?
Thanks.

I bought repro's from Chevy Duty. I have no complaints. Heavy bumpers with very good chrome. So far so good.

It is my meager understanding that the "triple chromed" repro bumpers hold up well due to the toughness of their multi-layer chroming. And I wouldn't be surprised to discover that all repro bumpers are made at the same place.

They are a bit thinner be careful when bolting it up that the face on the bumper bracket is flat and does not dimple in or you will dent the bumper. The finish is really nice on mine.

Later,

Mario

I purchased TriMark brand repop bumpers for my GMC and they look fine so far. It was somewhat of a challenge to get them lined up though.

I put mine on a year or more ago, and I still haven't bothered to line it up correctly. Also, I didn't check the clearance between the back edge of the bumper where it's right below the tail light area, and now I have a nice gash from the bumper on both bed sides. Be sure to use plenty of washers to move the bumper far enough from the body.

I picked up the front and rear kits at the Portland swap meet a few years ago for a pretty good price. No problem getting them to line up and they are holding up just fine.

I have both front and rear repro's on my truck and had to have the rear one replaced after 2 years as the chrome was failing. (dotted up, could see layer under chrome)

Chevyduty sent the UPS guy to pick it up at my house and after seeing the damage, sent me a new one at no cost. (5 year warranty on these)

My front one is looking a bit dotted up too and is about 4 years old but I bought that from a vendor about 30 miles away. I haven't tried to return that one yet.

The fit on both was excellent and they look like a million dollars when new. I just hope the new one I got last longer than 2 years.

I've had the same problem bobs409 has had. I bought chrome front and rear bumpers for my 67, the painted bumper in the pic is when it was first painted in '96, in 1998. They lined up perfectly and were just as thick and heavy as stock, but the chrome started failing after about 2 years...I used chrome polish to kinda bring them back, but I've lost the battle, they look like crap again. I think I'm going to stip and paint them to match the truck.....maui blue..... also, bumpers came from LMC truck in 1998

Also, the chrome has chipped in several areas and it was really really thin!

I got one from ChevyDuty also. Fit is good. Just bolted up. Do need to be carefull torquing down the bolts. It will dimple. Side by side comparison was a bit thinner than oe. Would buy again.
