87 engine options
Looking in ht ehaynes manual and the 73-87.com it apperas that in 1987 a carburated engine was an option can anyone confirm this???
Or what I mean if I was to swap my 6 for a snotty 350 with a carb would this pass inspectons. I need to pass the gas cap test and visual inspection. I believe they only look for cats. I guess my concern would be changing the tbi would cause a problem. If engines came with carbs I can't see a problem. I'd like to keep the tbi but I'm worried I would not get it running correctly with the computer. Most i've spoke to locally had trouble with new chips and not running right ect.. I'm not looking for a street stomper but if I find a good deal I like the flexability of picking up an engine and slapping it in there and go. norville

I'm not sure if there was a carb'd version in 87. I didn't think there was but I could definately be wrong. What I do know for sure is that Haynes always has descrepancies in their info.

According to the front little list in LMC (which is anything but gospel), "All engines were available with TBI..."
So by their wording, carb'ed engines theoretically were still used. How true any of that is i don't know. P.S. HAHA!! This is the last year i had to pass "emissions", which is kinda anticlimatic since no one even looks at the stuff around here anyways.

on the first page of the 1987 sales brochure it says ,"Every gasoline engine is now electronically fuel injected for easier starts and smooth performance".
I can tell you that a few of the farmers around here quickly converted to carbs so they could be easily field repaired if needed. Of course they did not know how wonderful & dependable the TBI would become then either. they were just skeered of that new fangled technology-- just like me a new video recorder that I can't use:-( , DAVE

The carb was still used in mexico.
