Rear has leaf springs. Having a hard time identifying the type. Checked my Hollander, Chevy Truck Parts Book and a Chiltons, but couldn't find an illustration. Anyone know of one on line? Also does anyone have any GM codes to determine ratio? Don't want to take off the cover just yet if I don't have to. Anyone interested can also PM me for an E-mail address if they wish. Bill

Is the cover round w/ a drop out center section? If that's what you meant by take out, then it's an H052. Probably 4.10 gears, could be 4.56 or 5.13 though.

Jim, It is a non-remove-able carrier. The cover has about a dozen or so of flat edges on it. Also by "Take Out", I meant removing the rear from the truck will be included with the price. Bill

Yep that would be dana 60. Do you know if the truck was a big block or not? Then the ratio could be 3.54.

I'm not sure what was in it, but it sounds a little familiar that the guy I bought the truck from said "400 Small Block". Anyone know of any other way of telling? There is also no front clip on the truck, therefore original sticker under the hood is long gone.

The 400 small block wouldn`t be original.Does the truck hae the glovebox door with the options list?To figure ratio, put marks to align yoke & housing, then mark brake drum & backing plate.Spin drum, counting revolutions of yoke `til the drum makes one turn.Just over four=4.10,about 4 1/2=4.56,etc.

Just talked to another friend this morning and he seems to remember the truck being a 350. I never knew a 400 SB was not offered in these trucks. Always learning something new. Anyway, I believe the truck still has the option list on the glove box door, but is a little hard to make out. Will check it for a ratio.
special-K, I've tried that trick of spinning the drum and counting the driveshaft before, but have found it to be only accurate on posi-traction cars. Haven't verified it, but remember being told by the guy I bought it from that it was not a posi rear. |

If it's non-posi then you'd double the number or rotate the tire twice and count the total driveshaft rotations.

Got a chance to check the glove box door and sure enough it lists the 350 engine with a Turbo-glide trans. But nothing about a gear ratio, just something about heavy duty leafs.
If y'all still would like to know the gear ratio, it will take a little longer as it's starting to snow and we may get a possible 10 inches. So far all year all we have got was 2 inches. Don't really like snow! |

Finally got a chance to check the ratio. It looks like it's a 4.10. It's a non-posi, I turned the wheel 1 full time and the yoke went around a tad bit more than 2 full turns. Times 2 equals 4.10. Bill
