Well, I think that a clutch type posi unit will do the job for me. I guess I will keep the truck too. Thanks for all the good response.

If you really think you need something in the front...I would go with the Torsen or Tru-trac. A clutch type posi as a distant second choice.

Personally (especially for the $$$ involved) I would run a Detroit Locker in the rear and be done with it. You will need to learn to adjust to it, but they are superior in off-road conditions and can be acceptable on the street if driven right.

Again, this all depends upon the severity/length of the winter weather in your area. If this has to be your daily driver and you have bad winters...be very careful. It is also a good idea to limit others' use of your truck, if you go this route.

If you go with any of the above traction devices in the front.........you have basically eliminated the use of the front axle in winter driving conditions. The trade-off choice is yours of course

You meant except the selectable lockers, right?

I believe that at one time some 4x4 trucks could be ordered with a factory posi front differential. I know it was not this series truck, not sure if it was GM. Anyone know?

Front posi was an option is these era trucks.
Dean has one in his 3/4 4x4.
From what I can remember in the dealer data book it lists the front posi could only be ordered with 4.56 in 3/4 ton 4x4's and 3.73 gears in 1/2 ton 4x4's.

Lets show a pic of a glove box sticker with posi...actually front posi and rear posi....3.73 ratio and it's a Blazer too. A very nicely optioned Blazer too I might add.

the front posi that was offered by GM is the Dana-Spicer Track-Lock.

There enough info displayed in the pic to figure what it is..its as 72 Blazer ...note the 104 inch wheel base and the CKE182S..thats more than enough too. Model numbers there too.

It's not mine...can only wish it was.

I saved that pic from someone here....before I saved files with peoples names who posted them. It's a real Blazer out there not a clone.

I don't think its the only pic I have of that option on someones glove box either...but I got no real filing system...it's amazing I get this stuff up and posted at all...lol

What about a Eaton factory posi out of the rear??? Since it will disengage at about 25 mph. They do not hold up to alot of torque as I blew mine out of my 85 blazer. Went with and auburn in the rear this time. Works great!!

ozrulzk5 I suspect you has a governor type posi that throws weights outward to engage the posi...and you blew it up...thats why diff shop love them. Repeat customers. I see you switched to a different type... much better choice I'd say.

The eaton posi in a 3/4 ton which is what this thread is about is a locker type.
I suspect your 85 being a Blazer had a much smaller diff.

i run a detroit locker in the back and a auburn posi up front, love it goes down the road nice and straight when hubs are locked. this is the set-up i would recommend for all around use.

I kept the drivetrain. Body/bad and chassis are gone. 1981 K30, 350/465/205 dana 60 and dually 14 bolt. Has a G80, and a flat bed. Going to replace the flat bed. 1985 K20, 350/400/208 10 bolt and SF 14 bolt. I wonder where I can find some 1 tons. Hmmmmm
