Shaved driprail anyone? - (as seen on Copperhead)
Anyone shaved their cab driprail, as was done on Copperhead?
Thought it looked sweet. Curious regarding pros/cons & ya'll opinions on the look.

I agree, it looks real cool. BUT, from what I've seen & read it's a lot of work. If your not a real good welder/ metal worker or have real deep pockets to pay someone to do it don't just go jumpin in to it. There's a lot involved in pulling it off so it looks good.

there are 3 layers of metal that all join together in that seam, so you have to make sure that they all stay together, better be good or be rich

Got mine shaved. I have pics and will post if you would like to see. I think it makes the truck look alot smoother, and it is a subtle mod that most won't recognize. Definitely not for the novice...I had mine done and it looked very complicated. Good luck in your decision!!

Painted...took these today, not the best of lighting!!
The last pic is of the groove that goes along the back of the cab....I had it filled in and smoothed also.

Mine are being shaved right now. The truck was in for paint and we decided it would look good with the new step bed I have on. Its a lot more involved than I had anticipated and NOT for the amateur body guy. I thought it was no more than get the cutting wheel out and buzz it off. Man was I wrong. Its not much more difficult than that across the front but over the doors and down the door frame is quite a process of cutting, folding and rewelding. The cab halves are held together by the spot welds in the drip rail strips. Now that its started I can't wait to get rid of that ugly eye-brow.
Makes the door fit more critical now too. The gaps aren't hidden by the rail anymore. When its done its really slick and seeing my truck is a summer driver it won't see rain from June to October anyway. Last edited by mac; 02-09-2005 at 09:22 AM. Reason: spelling |

I just picked up a cab from a fellow board member that had shaved drip rails started.. I'll have to post pics and see what else I can do to fix it up.. It is in far better shape then the rust bucket cab I have now..

i love the look as well and considered doin it myself.
i think you should consider how much your going to be driving it in the rain because there was a post a couple years ago and i remember a few fellows admitting that they had taken their drips for granted

I thought I wanted to shave my rails but after I saw a couple of completed trucks with this done I decided I liked the stock look better. IMO, the eyebrow is an important visual feature of these trucks. Seeing shaved rails reminds me of a receding hairline; no offense to anyone that is hair challenged I'll be there soon enough.

I love the looks of it too but since i'll be using my truck as a daily driver i desided against it. Although i must admit that with all the work it took to get the drip rail looking good again it might have been just as easy to shave it but i kept it for rain deflection purposes not cosmetic.
Imo nothing looks better than a fully shaved truck; cowl, driprail, door handles, tailgate ... all look great but some of them just dont seem practical on a vehicle that gets alot of use. |

i agree with greyhoundsteve (on this one, lol). i had shaved door handles too and it turned into a pain when i was drivin it everyday
