That ball is just a "spash-back" supressor of sorts. The way I am doing mine is this. I went to a local rubber hose/hydrolic hose dealer and bought 2 feet of 1-3/8" (1.375) oil & fuel resistant hose. That fits directly onto the tank fill neck. I ran that up towards the filler location. I went to Advance Auto and looked in the exhaust repair section. I bought a 1-3/8" to 1-1/2" reducer (actually enlarger)....then bought a 1-1/2" to 2" reducer. Welding the two together makes it go from 1-3/8" up to 2". Then simply weld that to the S-10 filler tube. I cut that ball out just below that vent tube connection. Mount it and connect the rubber hose (which will need minor shortening) and you are done.

Hope that helped.
