53 gmc TITLE

A friend has been trying to title his 53 GMC but NC won't issue a title in his name. There was only a bill of sale from Washington State when he got it. Used to be good enough for NC. We tried to get a title reissued from Wash but they had no record in their computers. It sat in a barn here for at least 30 years.
Need a title for a 53 or 54 GMC so he can get tags.
Thanks

He's an old guy who has helped me a lot. I have lots of chevy stuff but no GMC and he doesn't want to change the grills etc.

why cant he get a title? In NC you can do an indemnity bond through insurance agent and dmv and obtain a title

sorry I didn't realize. I checked with NC again. Yes, you can get a bond, yes, they will inspect it, but after 3 years they will issue, MAYBE a title. That is directly from the inspector. He has the vin and a bill of sale. Vehicle was never registered, always a farm truck.
Oh well

neither have I, but straight from the horses mouth. If it was registered in NC no problem, they have records back before I was born. Currently doing it on a 49 stude I only have a bill of sale for, but I got it in Ashboro.
