My truck currently has a quadrajet 17044213 (info i've found - 1974-78 Chevy/GMC Trucks with remote choke). It's in terrible need of a rebuild, I gotta keep pumping the crap out of it to crank it (i'd think that'd mean the bowl isn't holding fuel and only does it first thing in the morning) and then it bogs down badly if you try to accelate very fast. Everyplace I've called says they won't touch em and I don't want to spent the duckets for a new one. Does anyone have a good used one or know where I can get one? I'll post a WTB in the parts section too.

Sounds more like a choke problem to me. Starts and runs fine after the initial startup of the day?

You're right, it's the float bowl leaking off over time--common on Quads. Lots of people "say" they can rebuild them, but if you want it done right (throttle shafts rebushed, etc.) suggest you try here:

Thanks Smitty, ggod info - they've got one in stock for $165, if no one responds with having one I'll prob go that route.

Well, now that you say it continues to bog, that throws a new light on the subject. More than likely that's caused by a worn accelerator pump. Believe you can still buy a replacement individually ($4-5) at the better parts houses--if not one comes with a rebuild kit. Not too difficult to install and it might solve your problems cheaply.

Real easy to check.....open the choke and look down the front barrels. Slowly open the throttle while watching. Should see 2 streams of gas squirting (1 in each barrel) non stop and steady. Do it with the engine cold, preferrably after sitting overnight. Anything other than a steady stream means a problem in the accel CIRCUIT, such as pump diapram, check ball, etc.

If carb hasn't been touched in years, it should be gone thru anyway. IMO

I'm down the road in Vero Beach and can offer you some help. I don't have any spares for sale but, I buy Holly rebuilt Q-Jets down in FT Pierce and a older parts store. RIGGS Auto Supply / 772-464-0660. I have never had a problem with'em. If your intrested, maybe I can go down to the store with you.
