cheap lifts

i was wondering if anyone could give me advice on a cheap suspension lift. from what i have heard the tuff country lift for the 89 burb is one of the cheapest, but if anyone has any reviews on it that would be great.

also how many people have installed a suspension lift before and how difficult is it.

my last question would be how tall i can go before i have to start modifying thigs like the driveshafts and stuff.

thanks for any info

Tuff Country makes damn good springs- can't tell you about the rest of the lift kit, but EVERYONE likes TC springs, and their customer support and price are VERY NICE! I have TC 6" springs, and I would buy them again in a sec.

Suspension lifts can either be moderate or very difficult depending on the tools you have. If you have a 105 piece tool set from KMart, it's gonna be pretty irritating and time consuming. If you have some air tools and array of other tools, it won't be easy, but it will be a LOT easier- it's very doable by anyone with decent mechanical abilities.

On a Sub, 6" lift will cause you NO problems whatsoever, and you can probably do 8" without doing anything either except maybe a transfer case drop kit.

I am a dealer of 4 x 4 parts and accessories. The Tuff Country lifts are a pain . I've installed a few and usually have to redrill alot of holes. If you are interested I can get you a 6" superlift lift for $400 + s/h. ( thats with rear blocks) or all spring lift for $675.00 .if interested email me back at

I have a Rough Country on my 85 silverado and the only problem I had was getting the bolts out of thr front springs due to rust. I am happy enough with it I bought another 6 inch and will be putting it in my Burb this weekend if everything goes right with my freinds shop. I can let you know what I run into if you like.

I too have a rough country lift on my burb and had no problems except for the bolts rusted in the old spring eyes. This makes my second lift from them and i would buy another.

I got the Rough Country lift on the burb this past weekend and had very little problems. The biggest thing I would do is go get a set of 9/16 x 5 grade 8 bolts. I had to cut the spring bolts on it just as I did on my truck to get the old springs out. The only other thing would be to get something to lower you sway bar down so you can get it bolted up. Hope this helps with your decision.

i put on a 4in rought country kit on my 82 1/2 ton lwb not 2 long ago i know what someone said about the front bolts on the shackles. i almost had to repace one, but i backed it back in took a wire wheel cleaned the threads real good and soked it with pentrating oil. i agree they should send those extra bolts in the kit as like someone said, i had to cut my old ubolts on my springs i did had to replace one of my shock bolts i also went ahead and bought the extended brake lines plus did the 1in drop on the transcase as they reckamended i did have to massage the in side of the steering arm that was in the kit so it would fit around the balljoint that was no biggie i expected some modifing i did it in my gravel drivway with a big sheet of 3/4 in plywood, 2 sets of jackstands, one regular set,the other was the long suv type ,wheel chocks,grinder/cutter in my case,2 hight lift jacks hydraic, good set of handtools,2 friends, one to help u lug stuff around and the other with a phone to call 911 when u set a fire on it when u get madd thats about it
