rear end question

Hi, My dad is scrapping a 1 ton rearend out of a 74 cube van (van frontend with box) and it looks like a dana 60 rearend. I have a dana 60 rearend in my 71 3/4 ton pickup. Will the gears interchange as long as there both dana 60 axels? I hate to let the gears go if I could use them as a spare. As always thanks for reading.

keep the carrier also in case the difference in gears is at the carrier break, some where around 4.10 gears. Also, if it is a dana 60 dually then it could have larger axles and 35 splines then the carriers would not swap. Spindles would be different also.

JIM's70GMC, I looked threw your pics from your post and was wondering what the transfer case on page 3 is? Mine looks just like it. Is it gear driven or chain? Sorry so many questions I just want to learn about my truck. Thanks.

gear driven, part time NP205. Both my trucks have them.

I would bet it is a D70, rather than a D60. I have not seen a D60 used in a 1 ton application. Look on the center section for a 60 or 70 cast into the back side of the housing, that will tell you which it is.

I have been searching for A d60 lately. In the chevrolet 1 ton is is very unlikely to find a D60. The ford 250/350 trucks before 92 had them alot but some of the 1 tons had the bigger axle tube of 3.5" vs the more interchangable 3" unit.
