66 dash question
hey just bought my 66 short wide recently as a project and am trying to get it together. my guage cluster has 6 holes at the bottom. i know where the windsheild wiper, push button start, and the ignition go but what goes in the other 3 holes. also there is something on the bottom of the dash just under the wiper control. don't have any clue what it is. do know it is not all there. push up on the spring and can lock it and then push lever to release. appreciate the help. will try to pics up soon for better explanation.

Normally, they had the headlight switch, wiper switch and choke on the left side, and the ignition switch and cigarette lighter on the right and one spare hole with a plug in it. A push button starter might have been a factory option, but more than likely someone put it in. As for the thing under the dash, it's hard to say without a picture. It's not the park brake lever you're looking at, is it?

Was just going to say that the plugged hole is for a manual throttle, but rcurrier beat me to it. Now for a thread hijack...
The panel lights (where you remove the socket to replace the bulb then twist the socket back into place) wore the contact strip off from around the twist-in socket hole so the panel light no longer has a contact. Can this strip of waht ever it is around the socket hole be repaired? Thanks |

Yes, while the pickups usually had one or two of the holes plugged, on big trucks they often used the extra holes for throttle or pto cables. On my fire truck they used every hole plus some. There were switches for lights, electric fuel pump, horn/siren selector, road/pump selector cable and more junk. The dash looked almost like an airplane cockpit.
Newbie351, what model truck do you have? Sounds like a printed circuit you're talking about, but I've only seen them on the later trucks. 60-66 Nut

My dash would be like the upper one in this picture. The turn signal indicator would be the panel light in the lower left corner.

I realize that this was posted last year but I have been looking for a dash with 6 holes. Yes it's a hand operated throttle. I have neve seen a dash with six holes and I would greatly appreciate if you could send me a picture. I'm presently re-storing a 65 and my goal is to install every possible option.
thanks for your consideration Paul Sek |
