Does anybody know of a good product for cleaning/degreasing the engine and front end area? Everytime I do any work on my truck, I come out covered in grease and grim. I would like to clean all the front end up (from years of driving) but don't know what product will really cut through built up grease and road grim. Thanks.

The easiest way is to rent or have someone "pressure wash" your front end. Car lots do it when they get "used" vehicles in. When I rebuilt my front suspension and did the engine swap my uncle brought over his pressure washer and in 30 minutes everything was clean as a whistle. Be careful though, it's real powerful and it can break stuff and peel off loose paint.

I've had great results with oven cleaner. Beats any commerical engine cleaner I've used.

i have been using the oven off stuff as well, i am in the process of painting my frame. i used the liquid stuff to get the light coatings and then i have been using wire fittings in my drill to scrub to the bare frame. the heavy stuff i have been using a putty knife. before i have painted i go over all the metal with a black scrub disk (for the drill) by 3m that you can pick up at a local autozone or similar. that thing will take off everything, but it is a little expensive. i hope this helps...

Simple Green works fairly well. I have a great power washer, but am too afraid that I will break something or that my truck won't start after I use it.

OVEN CLEANER WORKS GREAT FOR ME TOO. NO NEED TO GET THE EXPENSIVE STUFF. I GO TO WALMART & GET THE CHEAPEST STUFF THEY HAVE. IT'S USSUALLY UNDER A DOLLAR A CAN, & I GET ABOUT SIX CANS. NO LEMONEY FRESH SMELL FOR ME. THEN I BREAK OUT THE POWER WASHER.

how long do you let that oven cleaner sit on the parts before you hit it with the water

my ties rods and front cross member have always been covered in oily grease ....

I'll jump on the oven cleaner bandwagon as well. I used the cheap Kroger brand to degrease a rear end for my Z28 just the other month. It didn't get into all the cracks and crevices, but it did pretty good. I just sprayed it away with a hose. I don't have a power washer.

We but Bissel oven cleaner at Big Lots by the case 80 cents a can, 4-5 cans it's clean, we leave the first heavy coat on overnight and spray it again in the morning and around noon hose it off and do it again.

I have had very good success with the Wal-Mart branded oven cleaner also. Less than a dollar a can.

Like JunkYardJohn said, go ahead and buy a half dozen cans. You will use them all.

I had real good success leaving in on 15-30 minutes. If you let it try, you pretty much have to spray it again.

Some of the stuff I pressure washed afterwards. Sometimes I just scrubbed with a nylon brush and rinsed with water. (I recall the water seemed very cold at the time. It was the middle of winter.)

I often use Zep Degreaser afterwards to remove any remaining oily residue that I missed. I love the Zep stuff.
