How do I get tailgate off?

My 71 has no provisions for pulling out the tailgate from one side when its open like the newer ones do.........so, how do you get to the bolts to tighten or loosen for removal or install of tailgates?

TIA!

have to remove bolts from either left or right bracket, then slide up tailgate and remove.

1/4 inch drive ratchet with a 6 inch extention and a 9/16 socket would be the easiest way to do this.
