How many stock shades of yellow are there?

I never really investigated this, but I have seen different variations of the yellow. Some are real yellow some flat maybe on the gold side and mine is close to school bus. I know it is factory. The color was matched to the inside cab components. Even side by side before painting my truck I parked next to a guy with the same year and color(original) scheme and his was darker.

Probably varies by the year on stock color. Yellow also fades fast in the sun~! So if a truck is garage kept it will look darker than one left out to the elements~!

The door on the side of the bed is the filler door for a saddle tank. I believe that it was a dealer add-on.

OK, I knew that you could get a little tool box on some of these trucks but most were on right side of the truck I believe.

Nice, that is more like it. I did not know You could even get the secondary fuel tank on these. Most likely a dealer option like you said. That is one nice truck you have there. Looks new.

Sweet truck. Never saw one that shade before. What's it say on the Glove box ID sheet for your color?

Oh, and my 72 C10 Burb has the aux tank setup too.

Look here: http://www.autocolorlibrary.com/cgi-...arch/search.pl. Looks like there were quite a few shades. In 1970 alone looks like there are 3 different yellows. In 1972 I know there are light yellow and yellow (the color of my blazer).

I don`t know what GM was calling your color(Dark Yelliow?),but it`s the "Fleet" color. You know,State/County Roads, school buses...Sometimes GM will pull them up and put them in the selection.Or,a fleet account can order it or a dealer.Like the Omaha Orange(Asplund,Allied Van,Yellow Freight...) you see on new vehicles.In`71 I know there was Ochre(mustard),and maybe Wheatland(corn silk) also.

Each color from the factory can have up to five different shades of the same color. Most people never notice unless you put the different painted parts next to each other. And that even includes todays trucks. When my dad sell a flat cover unit to a customer, he ships the gas tank cover door to the plant so they can get the right shade.

Scrubby, Thanks for the link...that is very cool. You just saved me a ton of research time looking up paint codes. Off the PPG store or auto supply for some shake and spray touch-up paint.

Hutch, Thanks...that one is very good too. I am still wondering about the ivory vs. white on the Longhorn but I know it is correct. The color chips just look a little off...probably my computer...LOL! The chips never look like the faded paint anyway.
