Geeze Keith, I hope your going to be fine!

Get a lawyer as soon as you can, even if the cops say you were the one at fault. Tennessee has a mandatory insurance law as of the beginning of 2003, making it illegal to drive on the roads w/o insurance. The cops not responding to the information of where the felon lives makes me mad... I would have demanded the cops respond to this info, or I would have demnded the cops supervisor get called to the accident. Please tell me you had full coverage!

Bring a LMC catalog with you and show the insurance company the REAL cost of repair.

Dude that SUCKS! I almost got in a wreck yesterday, a friggin POS red grand-am almost sideswiped me(would've been their fault, they didn't yield to traffic), and I gave them the traditional hold-down-the-hornbutton, and gave 'em the bird to top it off.

Get a lawyer. That's a hit and run even if you're at fault (and leaving the scene of a crime). Be sure to keep the witnesses name - I know that person would want you to do the same if they were the one that was hit, so I'm guessing they will help you.

Just take the blazer to a reputable body shop and have them write up an estimate. I would tell them to look it over carefully and look for any hidden damage as well. Those boys know what to look for as well as whats obvious. Tell them you want it written with all GM parts as well. The insurance company would be ghard pressed to argue the estimate.

I'm glad to hear your OK. I would get the Sherriff on the phone and find out why his deputies did not follow up on a hit and run. I would also inform your insurance company it was a hit and run as well as how the law handled it. They will light a fire under the cops ass, just so they can have the other guys insurance company pay the tab.

Meathead, do you have pics of the blazer? A friend of mine here owns the local body shop, I might be able to get him to work you up some numbers, including labor.

Just a thought..........Bill

Meathead,

First I hope your OK. The real aches and pains may not have shown up yet. It can 2 - 4 days before it gets bad.

Screamin_C10 is right on the mark. Get a body shop to go over it and write the estimate with all GM parts. They will find all the hidden damage. My wife was t-boned about 2 months ago. Was over $9k in damage to her Regal GS. Since the only witness was my daughter his insurance is refusing to pay even though the police specifically stated the other guy was at fault. Yes, we're getting a lawyer. Strongly suggest you do the same.

I hope it all works out for you.

Sorry about the wreck. That would suck but at least you had a witness who followed him. He's going to be in some deep $hit now.

I'd take it to the best, highest priced auto body shop that I could find to get an estimate.

Got a picture of your truck since the wreck? I'd like to show it to Gary (the guy Meathead bought the Blazer from).
Take care bro'.
Robert

Hey Kieth, Give me a call tomorrow. 423-272-5809 I get in the store around 10am How much coverage did you have on it? The thing is if you did not have a lot they will total it and only give you book value.

Acording to the NADA book value your Blazer in low retail valve would only be worth $2825. They define low retail this way:

"Low Retail Value
This vehicle would be in mechanically functional condition, needing only minor reconditioning. The exterior paint, trim, and interior would show normal wear, needing only minor reconditioning. May also be a deteriorated restoration or a very poor amateur restoration. Most usable "as-is"."

Since you didn't have it painted yet and probably don't have it insured at a set dollar figure yet, they will almost assuredly try to stick it to you as far as what your truck is worth. The worse problem with that is if they declare your truck totaled and if they give you $2825 for it your probably not going to get the option of keeping the truck also. I'm not sure on this last part as it probably depends on the insurance company. Most insurance companies will try every trick in the book to screw a person over on an old car or truck when it comes time to pay out.
