Correct truck ones ain't cheap...car ones go much cheaper. I've thought about it for some time and for right price I could be convinced to sell mine...or maybe even buy another...I go back and forth some on selling some of the rarer stuff, or do I just by another.

Oh, the memories... I've rarely been so happy as when I switched from 8-track to cassettes. Not a truck player, though.

Thanks for the pics. If they are that expensive I don't think I'll be buying a factory one. I bought a circular rack full of 8 tracks at a yard sale and was wondering how they sound or if they even worked. It turned out my father in laws portable 8 track player I was going to test them in stopped working years ago. Does anyone know if the GM in-dash 8 tracks AM/ FM fit in an uncut dash?

Question: I have never owned an 8 track. While browsing ebay, I came across 8 tracks, 4 tracks and 12 tracks (plays 8 track and 4 track) Are these player specific, ie, 8 track player for 8 track tapes and 4 track player for 4 track tapes??? I just looked at a couple of the tapes and it says 8 track, but all of them have 4 programs. Check out these titles up close:

Try Goodwill or some place of that nature, I see quite a few old stereo systems with 8 track players in them. If you ever come to Tn bring them and I will play them for you, I have 3.

Try looking on eBay for a Sanyo 8 track player. Years ago when it was in style I had a Sanyo 8 track with a "bi-amp" section installed at the Sanyo factory. Had the Dolby noise reduction and power boost feature that was state of the art way back. With a couple Pioneer 6 x 9's in the doors and a couple "tweeters" under the dash for an old set up it rocked pretty well. Nice thing was even back then I didn't want to cut the dash and with the two shaft style it was a straight bolt in. Not sure but I may even still have it. Wife says I never get rid of anything automotive related. Garage and shed prove her correct.
Forgot to add that the Sanyo 8 track in question is an AM/FM radio with the 8 track player. Has the old style manual tuning knob and the pull out - push in station sets. Really a pretty cool "old school" set-up.

greenhorn male, Don't even know for sure where the heck it is right now. I plan on "digging around" and looking for it this long weekend. When I do find it I will post a pic and give what information I can about it. Really worked well "back in the day". I finally graduated from 8 tracks to cassettes a few years back and pulled it out. I generally run about 10 - 12 years behind the latest tech.

My friend still has a working 8-track player in his garage. He only has a couple tapes that still work, though.
Remember the 'Quadraphonic' systems? I think those tapes had only 2 tracks, and if you played a quad tape in a regular 8 trk player, there was often alot of strange stuff on the 2 'blank' tracks-studio chatter and stuff like that, people talking in the background. Maybe it was the other way around, man that was clear back in high school.

Lord that was a life time ago.... Linda Ronstandt, the Doobies, Eagles.... The answer to your question is 8 tracks have 4 sets, approx 15 min per set, in between each is a loud cluck-click when it switched tracks. Never heard of a 4 track, they must have been as popular as VCR Beta Tapes.... I was just a teenager back then, Cruising in my friends 69 Chev flatbed and *****ing that gas was around 75-85 cents a gal.

That's my guess for the pink one on the right with no label! If the kids ever teach me how to post pictures, I will show you some COOL 8Ts! Take care, Mike

We had a 4 track tape player. It was made by Craig. They were made just prior to the 8 Tracks units. The main difference was that in the tapes the rubber wheel that was inside the 8 tracks was located on the unit itself so the tape actually had a hole where the wheel went. First you installed the tape then you engaged the wheel. If I remember there we only two sides to the 4 track tapes like A and B side.
I do not beleive that any auto makers ever jumped on these short lived items as an option. I still have a Marrantz Quadraphonic stereo home unit.

greenhorn male, Finally found the Sanyo 8 track in question from the parts shed but STILL can't post a pic of it. My computer shot craps Saturday morning and is headed to the shop. May be several days before I can post pics of it. Am using the computer at work so won't be able to post near as often. Had severe "board withdrawl" symptoms over the weekend.

Ironhorse..where did you post the pic? I can't find it.
Todd...don't think I've heard of Pink Floyd's Umma Gumma and I don't know what the pink one is because the front is also weathered. Here are some visible titles, maybe you could recognize the artist: Brown Sugar, Sway, Wild Horses, *****, I got the blues, Sister Morphine, Dead Flowers..., Moonlight M.... I bought an underdash unit on ebay. Hopefully it arrives and works so I could listen to these tapes. For some reason I just want to here what music used to sound like before....in person again, LOL.
