Drop Spindle Updrade

I have a 1971 frame with stock disc front suspension. I have been researching different vendors for 2.5" drop spindles and this is what I find. There are drop spindles that will lower and allow you to keep the stock upper ball joints and outer tie rod ends. Then there are the drop spindles that lower and upgrade the upper ball joints and outer tie rod ends to 73-87.
*What is your preference?
*Are there any problems with the upgraded drop spindles?
*Is there more that I should know?
*What parts would you recommend replacing when installing the drop spindles?

The "upgrade the ball joints" version are simply 73-87 drop spindles. They are much more common, as there are more guys building 73-87 trucks. That's 15 year span there. So, the vendors throw in the later ball joints and sell them as a kit.

I prefer the "use your stock ball joint" spindles that are specific to the truck model. I have run many pairs of Early Classic spindles with great results. I will continue to use them in the future too.

hey tx, would you say that 73-87 spindles are generally cheaper? and also, you can get 3" spindles for 73-87 and they are about the cheapest ones too
