My son and I are thinking about putting a roll pan on his 68 as well as moving the gas tank to the rear of the truck.
I have a safety concern over a rear end collision. Has anyone addressed this on their truck? Did you add extra support to the frame?

I moved my tank and plan to run a rear roll pan.
Per a recommendation on this fine board, I went with the rear brace from Early Classic and had it powdercoated black to match my chassis

It was fabricated by member fuelcellguy (Mark Fowler).

If you are concerned about this kind of accident, you should do some sort of belly pan or skid shield too. Most of the time a car will go right under the back of a truck and lift the rear up. That would slice a tank up instantly.

with a kid i'd be more worried about a flat tire than gas tank exploding

On my blazer I have I beams welded between the frame rails right behind the front and rear roll pan.

a spare tire is no problem...toss it in the bed, or carry a tripple a card.
Exploding over some one's hood is a bit harder to recover from...and the following law suit is pretty hard to recover from too. (need to make sure it is up to DOT standards set forth in 68)
