Question 4x4()()()cabs()()()BBC

Why do some cabs look like a different stamping behind the engine area? Is this the reason when people putting BBC in 67-72 4x4 some have more problems than others getting them to fit? I have a 67 & 72 and they look a little different in that area. The 67 was a 6 banger and the 72 a big block. I`ll be using the 72 AC cab on my BBC 4x4 project.

Any pics of the area you are talking about?

The reason people have problems with the big blocks fitting in the 4x4's is the 4x4's have the engines set further back to aid in having a longer front driveshaft. They can be moved forward but of course the t/c and transmission have to move up and your driveshafts have to be modified.

Y.J. The 67 cab, C-20, 6 banger, 4 speed, has two steps stamped in where it goes past the heater box. It almost looks it to clear an engine, maybe Chevy was planing for the BBC in 68 but changed the engine mounts instead. Wouldn`t that be cool? The 70 C-20 I drive every day dosen`t have them steps stamped in it. The 72 C-20 cab I don`t what it has, it at the paint shop but it was off a BBC truck. If the fire walls where stamped different at the heater box chevy could have some different stampings at the engine area to. This is like a new frontier. I`ll get some pictures of the area i`m talking about.

I didn't know that side was different, but if you look at the drivers side they are different. The 67 and 68 have the emergency brake cable coming in under the steering column and 69 and up comes in beside the fuse block. It would make sense that this whole panel is an entirely different stamping, but I don't know anything about big blocks. I did convert an a/c 69' cab to non a/c by using part of the firewall from a 68' cab, and it fit in perfectly.
