Re: what's your engine color? Pics Please

I painted my engine about 12 years ago so I'm not sure what the name of the color is. I think its Detroit Diesel Green. You have to go to a parts store that has a LARGE selection of engine paints to find it. Funny thing: I painted the engine that color 8 years before I got my truck and it is very close to matching the body color. I guess that engine was just destined for my truck.

I like mine black. Orange would look out of place.

Cat Fuzz,
I'm interested in knowing what the plate is under your carb. Did you have a heat problem you were trying to address?

Yep, its a carb insulator. In the hot summer heat my engine would heat soak and heat up the carb making it difficult to restart. The only trouble with using it is when the air is moist and its somewhat cold out, I have a bit of trouble with it idling too low until the engine gets good and warm. I usually take the insulator off in the winter.

Where did you get it? That sound like the same problem I have on my el camino. starts fine initially but after running then stopping it is hard to start and I smell gas but find no leaks. One guy told me it was related to the new intake I put on it.

Yeah, thats the problem I had. It's been years and I can't remember where I bought it. I think it was a Mr. Gasket product. Comes with the large plate and several spacer plates and gaskets so you can adjust how much insulation you want. I'll poke around on the web and see if I can find one for you.

EDIT: Found it! I had to notch the large plate to clear some of the carb linkage. You might have to do the same.

catfuzz that is really cool. I have to try it. I have been fighting it since 2001All, I guess you just can't beat the chevy orange. I painted mine red when I was going to paint my truck red and after seeing a meadow green I guess I will change it to orange before I mount the cab.

Re: what's your engine color? Pics Please

One has late model Cummins Grey, which will be repainted to the old Cummins Cream when I paint the truck, the others have Chevy Orange.

I have always thought of doing one in Black, but I think my next truck will have the Detroit Diesel Greenish blue On a REAL Jimmy of-course

Well brad called just last night and said my stroker was done and what color I wanted it. I told him like it was...black, but now after seeing these red ones I think it may be red.
