Speaker kick panels? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Hi I'm still new here and I thoroughly enjoy this site and all it has to offer, especially the tips and advice, but the pictures are always nice to waste hours lookin at too.
I'm plannin to finally get rid of the worthless cassette player thats currently in my truck and install a new Pioneer cd player but I figured before I do all that I needed to get my speakers squared away. The setup thats currently in the truck is one worn out 6x9(?) in the stock dash location and two 6.5" Blaupunkt speakers in the glovebox door (don't ask me why they're there because I wouldn't mind knowin myself). While I guess I can sort of hear things comin from the stereo when I'm drivin, the whole system doesn't exactly sound good and I was thinkin of orderin some kick panels with speakers in them from Chevy Duty. Has anybody ever gone with this setup? Any idea on how complicated installation will be? Any help and advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

there was a thread on making your own kick panel speakers which i was going to attempt, but the server has changes so i don't have it anymore. i will think i still might. I have mounted the stereo in the glove box and have 6" in the doors already. So it either 6x9s in boxes under the seat or components in the kick panels. Components ar muck cleaner looking and prob better sounding??

Thanks for the help, this eases my questions/concerns bout the whole deal. I'm 17 and work with limited funds, tools and work space and readin all this make installation sound a lot easier and cheaper than I had envisioned. Now I just gotta find a way to quit spendin what little money I have...

i've got the custom autosound kick panel speakers in my truck. if you do get these, they put really cheap speakers in them. they sound ok but not great. it would be better to custom build your own and get exactly what you want

Chevy Duty offers em with the autosound speakers but for extra money they'll put Pioneer speakers in the things. I figured the base autosound ones weren't that great so I narrowed my options: (1) order the things with the autosounds, but chuck those and put the Blaupunkts that I currently have in their place or- (2) just order em straight with the Pioneer speakers and try and sell the Blaupunkts. I wanna say the price difference for the Pioneer units is somewhere round 60 bucks.

I would definitely try to custom build my own if I had more confidence in my abilities, but I think my attempt at that would end up as somethin that I'd never wanna put in my truck.

I purchased the Custom Autosound kick panel speakers too. They have to be cut to fit around the vent handles and the top rear edge of the passenger sde has to be heated and bent to fit the contour of the cab. The driver's side speaker is very, very close to the e-brake pedal and the speakers are junk. Replaced speakers with better ones.

How did the the speaker pods turn out from rod doors? Did you get the pillar ones for the tweeters too? Got some pics?

I haven't bought speakers yet but will be buying some componet speakers in the near future. No pics, sorry

I bought and installed a set of pillar tweeters from Rod Doors and they worked fine. Put a couple of screws in them so they would fit better than just using the vecro that comes with them. Sorry, I don't have pictures though.

You could also put something like a 6.5" or a 6x9 in the lower front of the door. I've got a pair of Eclipse 6x9's going in mine.
