T5 and 283

I saw a 68' on ebay, it wasn't running but it had T5 behind a 400. I'm sure it will be short lived. But I was thinking of putting one behind a 283-350 in a 67 to try to get some mileage and have some hiway gear. Is the one out of a S10 the one I need? It seems like the shifters are in different places for the camaro and s10. Anyone done this? The truck will only be used for light hauling.

Re: T5 and 283

you need amanual from a 4.3 s-10, it is the same tranny that was put in 90's half tons except the shifter on the s-10 tranny will be at the back of the tranny instead of about the middle. i am using a s 10 tranny behind a vortec 350 - once i get the truck back together.

Re: T5 and 283

The camaro had the stronger one with the right spline count, you'll need to probably make a custom shaped shifter, not too hard if you can cut and weld...could actually make it look good if you wanted to.
Only rated for 305 ft pounds... I would do it with a 283 or 307, but not to a 350... not if you plan on haulin/towin/hot ridding/off roading.
Camaro tranny will need a custom wedge placed under the tranny mount to make it bolt down properly, the T-5 in an F body was turned a few degrees to try and make more foot room in the car.
