Re: Who has Impala SS rear disc brakes ??

Are those calipers the same PBR calipers found on Camaros and Corvettes?

Re: Who has Impala SS rear disc brakes ??

i'm very interested in hearing more about this "custom backing plate" as i'd rather use the ss calipers rather than the wimpy s-10 ones.

Re: Who has Impala SS rear disc brakes ??

According to CarPArts.com the corvette and the camaro have a different part number then the Impala SS ... Now this is not 100% but it would lead me to believe that they are different...

Re: Who has Impala SS rear disc brakes ??

Here are some pictures of the backing plate I made. I also attached a drawing of the bracket with specs. This setup does not have a E-Brake because it's built into the stock backing plate. If you want a E-brake you can use the Camaro caliper as it has the E-Brake built into it.

Re: Who has Impala SS rear disc brakes ??

Did you have to modify the the axles or discs? What master cylinder are you using. It seems like most of the braking action with the stock brakes is in the front. Is there a noticeable difference in braking with the rear discs.

Re: Who has Impala SS rear disc brakes ??

well i'm working on it. there will be a slight delay since my rear end is completly disassembled but when i get these working properly i will explore the idea of selling them to the board.

Re: Who has Impala SS rear disc brakes ??

Is this bracket going to make it possible to use the E-brake?

No, I didn't have to modify the axles or discs. I'm using a stock 71-72 master cylinder. It stops a lot quicker with the rear disc. It makes a huge difference when slowing down from high speeds. I have front disc also, so the truck stops good. It's a night and day difference from the 4 wheel drums that came on the truck.

I've had a few people PM me about what master cylinder I'm running, so I will post some pictures of it.

Using a line lock for the parking brake?

The impala caliper brackets look like they will fit an old school 10B. I want a mechanical parking brake.

Yours is a 12B, right?

No, I use the line lock for burnouts at the drag strip. Yes I have a 12 bolt rearend. I have no need for a parking brake.
