Trying to drop my oil pan to replace the gasket. I have the starter and dip stick out, and the pan needs to slide back further to come out. It's hitting the flywheel and won't drop any further because of the crossmember. Is this normal or could my engine mounts be so flat that this is the result? Hopefully I'm just overlooking the obvious...

Just read somewhere that you have to lift the engine. Is this true???

I just completed my small block oil pan removal.....go here. I'm thinking it's going to be the same way with a BBC.

I just did this about 2 weeks ago. Use the 2X4 in between the motor mounts and stands as posted in the above link. Make sure you check everything as you are jacking the motor up so you don't bind or break anything. Sucks but can be done. I used an engine hoist to raise mine but a floor jack will work just use a piece of wood so you don't cave the pan in.

Check to see if turning the crank will let go back a little futher. That`s what I had to do to get the pan off my SBC.

It's done...

To say that friggin sucked would be a severe understatement. I used my hoist, but still, I could go the rest of my life without doing that again and rest in peace. I love working on these trucks, but that's a job you do one time (hopefully).

We'll see in the next few days if it did the trick. Thanks for all the advice!
