Hi Everyone,

Hope we all had a great thanksgiving. I was reading through a post and 71dragtruck and ratrod67 (spl?) both had posted pics of their long bed trucks. Needless to say, they both are solid looking trucks.

I have a 72 C20, and would like to achive this look, but am concerned with what it would take to drop a truck with 8 lug hubs and 3/4ton suspension. Anyone have any methods on how I could achive a 4/6 drop on a rear leaf 3/4ton setup? Thanks for all the info, take care.

Welcome to the board. I too have a C-20 but mine is a 1970.
As lowering goes I lowered my c-20, I used 3in drop Spindels from GMC Pauls, Item number 1181582. They are for a 73-87 truck but they will fit if you change upper ball joints (maybe lowers) and outer tie rod ends. I replaced all ball joints and tie rods while I was at it. You also might have to do something with the steering stop because the spindels have a longer stop then the 67-72s have. I also plan on cutting one coil out for a 5in drop in the front.
For the back I used a flip kit. I bought perches from a local speed shop. I also c-notched it and boxed in the frame around the area.
I dont have any good pictures yet but Ill post some tomarrow.

Hi,

Thanks for the replies. The GMC looks sweet. So it sounds like spindles and a flip kit for the rear is the way to go. Any ideas on what would need to be done to switch to a 5 or 6 lug pattern. Thanks again for the help, looks good.

So you have leaf rear,right?Cuz coils are the same to drop as 1/2t in rear.You need to decide if you want it to be a half or three quarter ton,first.If you don`t want the better brakes and wheel bearings of a 3/4t,then go out and buy a dropped spindle/disc brake conversion kit for pre-71s and change to a 12-bolt rear.There are lots of custom 8-lug wheels.So,I`d suggest staying with what you`ve got and just do a low 3/4t.More trick,IMHO.

I converted my C-20 to a half ton front and rear, then used lowering parts for a C-10 and 73 and newer front end parts. It was pretty cheap actually.
