Scooooooorrrrrrrrrre!!!!!!

Scored a nice OEM tailgate today at a local custom shop. (won't divulge which one just yet cuz they have a TON of 67-72 parts they're selling and I wanna go back this saturday and pick up some more stuff.
Anyhoo, the tailgate is black, prolly off a '72. There's only a couple dents, 1 at the tip left, and a little one on the body line of the handle on the right. I picked it up for $250, plus their gonna shave the upper and lower trim, fix the dents and paint it up for me for another $300 and I'll have a perfect OEM gate. Funny thing, there's what looks to be an original sticker on the top left of the gate that says "disc brakes". It was an off yellow color. Never seen that before.
Inside the shop they were building an old burb that was being set up to lay frame on 24's, a '49 chevy truck layed out on 20's up front and 22's out back, and a bunch of other cool cars. I'll bring my camera and snap some pics saturday morning and post them.

Re: Scooooooorrrrrrrrrre!!!!!!

I think I'm on to your source.........If it's who I'm thinking, They had a huge consignment at the Daytona Turkey Rod Run car show. It was a Chevy Truck gold mine. I picked up some nice seat belts from them. I wish I had more $$$,I found them too late in the day.

Re: Scooooooorrrrrrrrrre!!!!!!

The decals started in 71 and were on 72's. I had a 71 GMC, medium green and it had the sticker. Both 72's have them.

Re: Scooooooorrrrrrrrrre!!!!!!

I thought that disc brake sticker on the tailgate was '71 only. I thought disc brakes were standard in '72 and an option in '71.

Re: Scooooooorrrrrrrrrre!!!!!!

Dad's '71 had the sticker. Always wondered why the caution bars? Was GM afraid people would stop too quickly?

Thanks! Some may remember my unfortunate luck with another board member who shipped me a re-pop gate and kindly shipped it without any type of packing or protection around it other than a flimsy cardboard box. Needless to say I got it with 5 dents in it and a popped spotweld on the driver side. Heck, that thing was a piece of garbage to begin with. They don't make 'em like they did from the factory!

Re: Scooooooorrrrrrrrrre!!!!!!

boundstaffpress, I believe the sticker was placed high on the left, sortof like an early version of the third brake light I suppose. And I do not think it was to caution the driver of stopping too quickly. It was a warning for the Ford driver that was tailgating. LOL

Re: Scooooooorrrrrrrrrre!!!!!!

Anything is worth the price paid for it....but is this an out of box oem tailgate or a good used one? are used tailgates going for 250.00? Not to sound like an a-hole, but ive bought trucks for less than that.

Well, you know what? You get what you pay for. It is a good used one that has zero rust, and only a couple small dents that need to be fixed. Check and see how much they have been going for on ebay or even in the for sale forum here. I'm getting a deal and I know it.

Fatback, it is Paragon Customs, and I believe you are correct. I talked to Eric, the owner this morning and he told me they were there selling a bunch of their stuff. Eric is a really cool guy and we talked for a while about 67-72's. He's had a few and the burb I mentioned earlier is his. It's gonna be killer when done. I'm probably going to have them shave the tailgate handle also. Might as well since everything else is being done. Can't wait to get it back.

Re: Scooooooorrrrrrrrrre!!!!!!

Thats a fair price for Florida. Everything we get is hauled into the state, so add extra for the shipping charges. Look to the right in the picture, that is a original Florida Blazer. Not much left...
Also, your right, that guy has some intresting stuff. Good find.

Yep, Thats the same guy. I did get their business card and flier. They had a lot of stuff there at the show. I ran out of money before I found them. Other than OEM doors hood and fenders, they also had steering columns, pedal assemblies and plastic container after plastic container of parts from mirrors, seat belts, heater controls.....ect.
It's too close for Christmas for me to make a trip to Orlando.

Re: Scooooooorrrrrrrrrre!!!!!!

I`ve never seen a disc brake decal on anything but a first year for discs`71.Disc brakes were never an "option".`87s had the fuel injection emblem, first year.Same deal.
