i was doin some oxy-acetelyene welding today at school and i set the red hot filler rod down on the bench and sorta stepped into it...just a stupid accient but the F***ING thing went right through my carhartts, shirt, boxers and well...yeah...lets just say if it was any closer id be a sad guy right now...i couldnt imagine what it wouldve been like, cause this is frikkin painful enough...just got a minor burn but wow what an eye opener..any other welders out there that have had experiences like this?

Well were should I start,Well how bout cutting off exhast pipes
and a piece a very HOT piece FALLS INTOYOUR SHOP SHIRT POCKET AND STARTS ON FIRE!!MAN I HATE WHEN THAT HAPPENS!
OR,you cut off a clamp and the hot part you just cut END UP UNDER YOUR FOOT AND GOES THROW YOU BOOT,THAT LEAVES A
MARK!!
OR,YOUR WEILDING UNDER SOMETHING AND A SPARK JUST HAPPENS TO GO IN YOUR EAR OUCH!!
I COULD GO ON AND ON BUT YOU GET THE IDEA!!! BEEN THERE DONE THAT!!!!! LOL

Well, by now I'm sure you know about bending one end of your filler rod in a 90 degree angle about 1" or so from the end. That way you don't pick up the wrong end. I learned that one the hard way.
I was welding a bunch of 1/2" square tubing together one time and reached across to weld another joint and rested my arm on a piece I had welded 2 minutes before. Still have the 1/2" wide stripe on my wrist to remind me!
Glad to hear you didn't roast your weiner! That would've been painful - to read about even... Be more careful next time!!!

Just got off work and it still looks pretty rough...hope it heals fast....maybe get a sweet war wound out of it too... jk

I knew a guy who was a little absent minded in welding class. He used to scratch his forehead with a red hot electrode because he said the shield strap was itchy.

I've set myself on fire a few times. You just have to be aware of what burning clothes smell like. Oh, and if you own one of those red/black cheapo hunting jackets? Keep it well away from the welding area. I seen one go up FAST while hanging on a wall 20 ft. away. A little bit of weld spatter and whoosh!

I used to do a lot of welding and fabricating. Not anymore, except on the truck now and then.

I am currently training to be a Blacksmith after 15 years in the IT industry. Believe me, the first time you pick up a piece of iron that has just cooled from Red to black by the wrong end is generally the last time you do it! The good thing about being a smith is that you always have a big tub of cold water close-by to shove your hand in immediately. The other good thing is that you're unlikely to end up with roasted chestnuts as you wear a thick leather apron!

Also watch out when welding if you have any fine steel wool lying around, that stuff burns real well when a welding spark hits it. Unexpected fires teach you to be tidier in the garage!

I was arc welding in the garage once while it was raining and shocked the crap out of myself.
I also was welding overhead once, and let a bead go down my boot. It was cold by the time I got my boot off, and had burned its way into the arch of my foot.
