Taking the windshield out

hey guys, I am cleaning up the 69 Blazer and realized that I need to pop the windshield out, it's cracked anyway, but it has very nice stainless trim....I have always used the brute force approach to windshields but I want to save the trim.................any advice? I have carefully pried up on around the edges but it seems the whole rubber seal wants to lift up with it??? any advice? thanks

Take a utility knife & cut the seal on the inside of the windsheild all the way around. Push the windsheild out towards the cab with the exterior part of the seal (with stainless trim intact) still attached to windsheild. Once the windsheid is out, carefully remove seal from windsheild. Once seal is off, it will be fairly simple & much easier to remove the trim from it. Of course, you will have to get another seal, but if you're gonna put in new glass, why not a new seal? You have to install the trim into the new seal before you put the seal on the windsheild. Then you have the dubious honor of installing it back in place. Btw......this is a MAJOR LEAGUE PITA!!!~!

I had a new one, the green tinted type to match all my other glass, put
in at my house for $140 bucks, I had my own gasket, imo the gasket is
not worth saving unless it's really new, amd yes it is a PITA to get in

Thanks guys.....I am going to get a new seal so getting it out by cutting it out shouldn't be too bad...now installing it.....?? Looking forward to installing it....NOT! Oh well it always seems that just when things are going smooth you run into a PITA! That's where lots of beer comes in handy......

How much is a blazer window (or truck i guess right) ?? I heard they're alot, or are they just avg cost?

I got one done a few years ago by a glass company. Cost around $200, I think, for the glass, seal and labor. Not sure what it would cost today to have a new windshield put in, but if you add up the cost of the glass and seal, it might be worth just having somebody do it.

Good point, Huskerboy2. And if you hire someone to do it, they are responsible if the glass breaks, or if it leaks afterwards. However, make sure who ever you hire has had exerience with installing the trim. We are dealing with old trucks/blazers here. Most of the windshield installers I've dealt with have experience but not necessarily with older vehicles like ours. And I've heard horror stories about installing the trim.

i just priced out the windshield for my 72 and it is $125 for the glass and another $45 for the seal......iam saving money by having my old man do the install since he used to do it for a living....

I had one installed at my house with gasket and a new rear view for $165. Well worth the headaches it saved me from.

Having a professional windshield installer sounds like an excellent choice! So my plan now is to cut the old one out, get my rig painted and drink beer and watch the windshield guy install my new one...one less PITA!

If I were you before the installer leaves, get the garden hose and check for leaks. I've been down that road...

They came to my house as well, did it in the garage while I watched, I had
a GM seal so he used it instead of theirs, my price tax and all was $141.xx,
and yes I let them do it since the first thing out of his mouth was, these r
a pita and alot of times they break during install, but he didn't break it
