Overhead console in 67-72?

I was thinking about a new CB radio for the truck, and where to put it.
Now I thought about the dash, but the radio is already there, so maybe
I could make a overhead console. Is there anybody who has done this already?
If so, could you post some pictures of it please? Any ideas about this are welcome.
Thanks in advance.

Cya,
Edmond

Re: Overhead console in 67-72?

Yes I know the one you mean. I never went for it because I think the place of the speakers is way to close to the head.
Maybe I'm wrong, 'cause I've never heard how it sounds, but it was to exspensive to try it out.
Any later model overhead consoles that I could use? Maybe with a little work on it to make it fit the roof?

Some of the conversion vans hadv a overhead with a space for a CB, CD player etc. Check your junk yards. Or just mount under the dash close to you.

JC Whitney used to have one made out of wood that went in place of your sunvisors, then your visors attached to the bottom of the wood piece.

Re: Overhead console in 67-72?

dad had the one LMC has in his old '76 (made for that bodystyle.) the speakers sounded terrible! they blasted cheap speaker sounds right in your ears! painful!

i, too, have thought about the overhead console. i currently have a custom one built out of wood. it's pretty cool, but it's coming out. i don't think it would hold a cb, though. i was given the option to have it built for a cb or for switches. cb was under the dash, so i chose switches.

my current thought is to use one out of a recent truck or tahoe, but a substantial cb like a good midland or cobra classic probably wouldn't fit. a smaller one might.

i've been tinkering with building my own, and have a few patterns made, but nothing yet.

also, the overhead radio/cb console was an original option for our trucks. one recently sold on ebay. it looks like this:

Re: Overhead console in 67-72?

I have seen one cut into the dash where the ash tray is (was). It looked very nice and would consider doing that myself. I just detest cutting the dash, even in a daily driver, but it sure did look great, not out of place or an eyesore.

You could put it in the glovebox... instead of a radio.

Well there is my CB-radio now:

It fits perfectly, and I can always put the ashtray back in.

But I want to buy a new one, and that one is larger.
Like you said, I don't want to cut up the dash.
