Got my new sway bar bushings on- pics
I recently cut the front springs on my truck and had to remove my sway bar in the process so I decided to clean it up. I went with Moog urethane bushings for my 1 1/16" bar (part #K6169). Fellow board member 70GMCer sandblasted my bar and brackets and primed them. I painted them body color and bought all new grade 8 hardware. I might modify the front brackets later. My question is: Did I put the bar on upside down???. I'm not sure if it matters. The reason I ask is I looked at Tx Firefighters thread in FAQ and noticed his first pic showing the bar in the grass looks like my first pic angled downward but then after he installed his it looks angled upward. I haven't driven it yet. Do I need to flip it or does it matter?

Re: Got my new sway bar bushings on- pics
How much difference in handling is there in those? I had 67 3/4 ton I should've pulled it out when parting it. But I have a 67 parts truck that has one. I thought of doing this with it when I rebuild the front end.

Re: Got my new sway bar bushings on- pics
Nice work, that's cool you painted it to match the truck. It probably looks funny because you are using stock height brackets witha lowered truck. ECE sells lowered brackets for $20, but what you have should work just fine

Do the sway bars make a noticeable difference in handling?

Re: Got my new sway bar bushings on- pics
Not to steal, but I have one and it looks to be a 7/8", is that stock? I have seen the 1 1/16" as well. Were they both offered? I couldn't find urethane bushings for the 7/8", anybody know where I can get em? Wes, do you have these in urethane?? Any help would be appreciated. Yes, a sway bar makes a huge difference! When I turn my 2wd short bed with BBC it leans hard so the bar keeps it from leaning.

Re: Got my new sway bar bushings on- pics
If I remove the factory brackets I will just drill new holes and mount it directly to the frame like Frizzle Fry did on his Burb. I have only seen 7/8" bars offered for the rear by the vendors. I thought 1 1/16" was the smallest for the front. Maybe a vendor will verify this.

Re: Got my new sway bar bushings on- pics
yes you could get the small 7/8 bars. 1 1/16 were heavy duty .

Re: Got my new sway bar bushings on- pics
davidh- I haven't driven it yet with these new ones but the bar will stiffen your front end to prevent lean.
Kelsfine69- Mine are the urethane type I bought locally for $24 for all.

Re: Got my new sway bar bushings on- pics
I snaked one from a 97 hoping to use it, but I am doubting I can get it to work. I pulled mine from a 67 3/4ton and it's the 7/8, but for now it is better than not having one at all. I'll have to scan the junkyards to see if I can locate a late 70's early 80's if they'll work?!

Re: Got my new sway bar bushings on- pics
Looks good..Are you getting any noise from the poly bushings? Heard somewhere that they tend to squeek. Enlighten me.

Re: Got my new sway bar bushings on- pics
If you want the heavier bar, you'll need a 3/4 or 1 ton unit. They go through 91 on heavier trucks. The 1/2 ton changed body style in 1988, but the heavier trucks kept the same old body style for another 3 years longer.

Re: Got my new sway bar bushings on- pics
These Moog bushings have no zerk fittings and the directions specifically stated to "Not" use any grease or they will develop a squeak. I'll see in time how they work.
