Need help with these bolts!!

Well, last night I started the front disc swap finally. Everything was going well on disassembly section until I got to these bolts. Oh man, for the life of me I could't move them. I thought there migt be load or something on them but I didn't see anything therefore I soaked them with penetrating oil. This morning I tried again, NOTHING!. Any ideas? Heat, Hammer, ....

not related to these bolts, but in general stubborn bolts can be taken off with a drive impact tool(manual). I picked up one of these to remove a rotor(honda).You put the socket on and hit it with a big hammer, applies up to 200ft lbs of torque to break bolts loose



You may want to pick one up. I got mine at NAPA auto

i'd spray penatrating (pb blaster)stuff from the backside for a couple of days then apply gentle heat to try and loosen them up// you have to take care about applying too much force(impact tools and long breaker bar extensions) especially on the smaller bottom bolts because it is very easy to break them off in the spindles

my brother had the same problem with his. he ended up using pb, heat and air wrench. here is the thread with peoples suggestions.

Nima - I don't know your complete plan but why are you disassembling at that location? If you are converting to disc brake don't you need a different spindle? I would remove the spindle at the ball joint location and not worry about the backing plate. Does your set-up use the original spindle?

Please don't flame me for asking - I'm just trying to learn.

No, I am putting a new spindles as well. Actually that was what I thought this morning. Then I guess I should take the whole thing off at the ball joints.

i agree. just take off the drum spindle at the ball joints and put in the disc brake spindles.

I completely agree, I usually just remove the whole spindle and pop it into the scrap pile. That saves making multiple trips with the seperate pieces.

As a side note though, if I remember correctly, those bottom 2 bolts go all the way through and have nuts on the back . No biggie if they were to break off.

Heres a neat trick that I have used before, HOT WAX, yah yah don't laugh, take a long candle or even a birthday candle, heat it up so the wax is melting and then let the wax melt into the threads, then the wax hardens in the threads acting as a natural penetrating/lubricating oil that doesn't leak out, has worked wonders for me before, especially since I didn't have a torch
