rookie mistake!

I have changed my oil on my 69 1/2 ton without any problems in the past. I changed it this time when the motor was still warm and the oil hit the cross member and went everywhere! what a mess! any easier way to change oil without it running all over the floor?

Re: rookie mistake!

Cut a piece of cardboard to direct the oil into the pan. It is best to change the oil when it is warm, gets more of the debris out.

actually, the hotter the oil, the better the drain. And if you want to get anal, let it drip for 1/2 hr or so.
What engine do you have in the 69? Personally, I've never had any issues with stock engine set ups.

Yeah, my 350 pan drains on the passenger side at the back.... nowhere near a crossmember, and I think my six banger drained at the same spot

Re: rookie mistake!

punch a hole in the bottom of your filter, let it drain before you remove it. Much less mess this way.

Re: rookie mistake!

I usually get a quart of economy oil on top of my required refill amount and after draining to a slow drip, I pour the economy oil in and let it semi flush the oil pan a little more til it slows to a drip, then plug and refill. No sense flushing with $5/qt mobil 1 or the likes.

Re: rookie mistake!

if you are running mobile 1 ,then I wouldn't flush it like that at all. All you're doing is diluting the synthetic with dino oil.
