Well, its that time again when I post a few more pictures of my rodstoration (We all know how much us truck guys like pictures). I got the floorpans/inner rockers welded in on both sides, and patched up both kick panels. The floor feels way sturdier now, and it makes everything look more complete. The welds aren't ground yet, but will be shortly. For the record, this is the first time I've ever welded.

WOW, nice job. Excellent in that you are just cutting out the really bad sections verses replacing complete panels which is a mistake most newbeee's make --like me! You get an A+!

That looks great! I'm originally from an area where all the trucks looked like that growing up, now I'm spoiled living in an area where you need to replace outside rockers and maybe a small hole in a fender and door bottom. Knowing you did all that yourself makes driving the finished product 100X more enjoyable

Whats the trick to making the new piece fit into the cutout portion so snuggly?

What are you using to cut out your floor? I was planning to use a cut-off wheel, but it won't do curves liket you have.

Thanks for the support guys! It's coming along slow but sure. I can't wait to get it back on the road. To answer a few questions:

petsudeh: I just cut the bad piece of metal out, laid it on top of the good new piece then traced it with a paint marker. I cut it out of the new piece, making sure to make it a little big, then I trimmed it to fit from there. If there was a gap, I'd cut a strip of metal and weld it in.

boundstaffpress: I used a 4 1/2" angle grinder with a super thin cutoff wheel for some of it, a sawzall for some of the more precise cuts, and a dremel 1 1/2" cutoff wheel for the curves and tight spaces.

Butt welding the floor patch panels in place like this is definitely the right way to go, but what is the consensus on overlapping and welding? This is better suited to by newbie skills.
