Do I have to C-notch?

If I put a 6" drop in the rear of my 69 do I have to C-notch it, if so what is this difficult to do?

If you want any sort of travel in the back with out it slammin the frame then yes you do need a C-notch. I think it is recomended with any thing over 4" so with your 6" it is a safe bet that you would benifit from it. ECE claims that it's not necessary but mine hits under the right (wrong) conditions. There are tons of guys on here with 6" of drop who say they don't have problems.

Would you have any pics of what it looks like, I would like to see the clearance.

I have 2.5-3" of travel = 6"ish drop. Never bottomed out hard enought to notice. The rubbers are trimmed to hit 1/2" before the frame but there are no marks showing it's hit.

Shock Angle is everything. Wrong angle horrible ride.

This is a pic I had on file. There is about 2.5" between the frame and the axle tube. Going down the road, normal bumps, rough bridges no problem. Drop off a tall speed bump to fast with a couple hundred pounds in the back........BAM! Super potholes...........POW! Yea I guess I could ease around with it like it was made of eggshells...........but I wont! A notch is probably in my future.

See Ten I was wondering what size drop you put on ur pickup? And where did you get and if you were satisfied with it. I was planning on getting the one from early classic, they wanted somewhere around $800 for a 4/6 drop everything included. Oh year and what size tires and rims do you have, trying to get an idea on the stance. Thanks

The drop is all early classic. I went 3.5" in the front and 6" in the rear. The wheels are 17x9.5 with 4.75 BS and a 275/60 in back. The front is 17x8 with 4" BS and a 255/50. I also used their extreme drop crossmember and converted to a one piece driveshaft. She rides and handles great but needs a little more room for the axle to swing up in the rear. I personaly would recomend 5" in the rear if you don't want to notch it. I really didn't want to notch mine but I like how she sits.

What do you recommend about the extreme drop crossmember and the one piece driveshaft, can i get by without using them? BTW I love you pickup you did an awsome job on it.

The guys at ECE recommend the Xmember and driveshaft if are using a 6" drop. This board is full of people with 6" of drop in the rear who didn't do these mods and are reporting no problems. Thanks for the compliment on the truck. I drove about 5 hours to get it from a guy who had owned it for 27 years. The old guy would probably have a stroke if he could see what I have done to it.

I put the lowered (raised??) mounts from ECE on mine, cheap insurance.
